Evacuation

It is doubtful that many people look forward to evacuating their homes, even under the most serious of emergencies, but sometimes it is absolutely necessary.  One look at New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina is enough to show us that serious flooding can make an area completely uninhabitable.  The evacuation that occurred after the tsunami in Fukushima, Japan, demonstrated how desperate people can become when they have absolutely nothing to depend upon for the most basic necessities.  In many cases, there is little or no time to even pack, which is why it is so important to have a 72 Kit ready for every member of the family.  These kits should be kept in a place where you can pick them up easily on your way out – they will be useless if you have seconds to clear out but have to dig through a packed closet to reach them.
