Unnatural Disasters

Although nature can throw quite enough at us, there are often manmade emergencies to contend with.   These disasters usually come upon us quite suddenly, such as the destruction of the Twin Towers in New York City, which means that a 72 Kit will be especially appreciated in these circumstances.  Evacuation is often essential during one of these emergencies, but being able to pick up you survival bag at the door as you leave will definitely help you to get through events of this kind much more easily.

Chemical spills can create an extremely hazardous condition to anyone living near one.  A bad leak or accident at a factory can cause the introduction of either liquid or gaseous chemical pollution.  These leaks usually have a very noticeable smell to them, but some chemicals have so little odor that you may not even be aware that a leak has occurred.  However, once you have become aware of the leak, take shelter in your house immediately.  All windows, door, and ventilation vents should be closed to prevent the chemical from entering the home.   If an evacuation becomes necessary, you survival kit should be ready near the door to grab as you exit.

Terrorism is a modern worry that has sprung up fairly recently.  Once again, it is the very unexpectedness of terrorism that lends itself to the damage and chaos it causes.  There is almost nothing you can do to actively protect yourself against terrorists.  However, you can have survival supplies on hand in your home so that if services such as electricity or water are interrupted because of a terrorist  attackwater are interrupted because of a terrorist attack, you will still be able to weather the emergency.  Having even a few days of water and food on hand means that you will not need to go out and expose yourself to possible danger, and order and the usual services will probably be restored before your 72 Kit runs out of supplies.

Civil Disorder and riots can occur when large numbers of people express their opinions violently, such as the Rodney King Riots.  These generally dissolve into general mayhem with looting, burglary, and murder.  If you are in a city where these problems have arisen, you certainly want to maintain a low profile, for injury to you will also cause more problems for your family.  Travelling in certain foreign countries can also expose you to actual war.  In both cases, being able to stay in your home or hotel room will mean that you will not have to go out in a hazardous situation to look for food and water if you have supplied yourself with a survival kit.  In most cases, riots and other civil disorders are broken up quickly, so a 72 Kit should see you safely through the situation.
